TOPIC:
This course is intended to provide participants with a solid foundation to resolve crisis situations.
Topics include:
- Peaceful surrender of hostages and hostage takers
- A safe ending to barricaded individuals
- Successful de-escalation of a suicidal subject
This course will include:
- Introduction to understanding of the mindset of persons in crisis
- Effective communications
- Negotiation Tactics
- Establishing Policies
- Post Incident Review
This course will include lecture and role playing scenarios. At the conclusion of the course a final exam will be given.
INSTRUCTOR:Sgt. Todd Gilchrist (Ret.) Todd spent 26 years with the Muskegon County Michigan Sheriff’s Office where he worked as a Sergeant, Jail Administrator and training coordinator. Since retiring, Todd has continued working with the county as a Deputy where he works closely with law enforcement and behavioral health workers to aid in successful engagements with persons in crisis. He also serves as a co-coordinator with the County-wide Crisis Intervention Team. Todd is an adjunct instructor at Grand Valley State University, West Shore Community College and Kirtland Community College. Todd has also presented at multiple national law enforcement conferences and is an instructor for Training Force USA.
TARGET AUDIENCE: All member of the criminal justice community. Training is especially valuable for corrections and law enforcement personnel who respond to calls for service in crisis situations.
