Cryptocurrency is becoming more prevalent in law enforcement and in the array of investigations being conducted.

TOPIC:

This course is all about the virtual world of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is becoming more prevalent in law enforcement and in the array of investigations being conducted.

Most law enforcement officers and investigators do not have a basic understanding of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is used in different illegal criminal activities, increasing the need for investigative tools, in order too, conduct proper investigations. This course will provide an understanding and examples of the ways cryptocurrency is negotiated and/or used to facilitate crimes. Law enforcement officer and investigators will receive detailed instructions about cryptocurrency identification and different investigative methods.

The purpose of this class is to assist participants in investigating and prosecuting cases involving cryptocurrency. This instruction will arm investigators with the knowledge and confidence to build a proper case.

TARGET AUDIENCE: All members of the criminal justice community (sworn and non-sworn).

INSTRUCTOR: Sergeant Jacqueline Lee Hearon is supervisor of the Economic Crime Task Force and Fraud Unit of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. She heads a multi-agency task force and conducts fraud training classes. She instructed for ten (10) years at the Brevard Community College Police Academy. Currently, Sergeant Hearon is a member of the ACFE and is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI.)
