Provides the tools and skills to create continuous improvement through the standards of total quality management and leadership.

TOPIC:

The reality of police work is that those we serve and protect are our customers. Customer service is the key to enhancing effective police-community relations, especially in today’s climate. Police must become more than just a last name on their name tag. We must humanize the badge by engaging and connecting with the public.

We have heard that concept time and time again; however, we miss the mark when police management fails to recognize the rank-and-file officers as THEIR customers. Poor management creates toxic work environments that erode team cohesion and diminish morale resulting in poor work performance, unfavorable community interactions, and strains, if not destroys, community relations.

An organization’s employees are the most valuable asset any management team can have. Management must treat their teams as such if the organization wants to achieve its goals. Sun Tzu said, “A leader leads by example not by force.”Transformational Leadership: Creating Teams in the 21st Century gives the leaders tools to transition the science of management into the art of leadership. The industry provides future and current leaders with classes, direction, and training focused on management. This is the science. Anyone can learn the science, but true leaders make that science an art.

Research has shown that organizations which enable and empower their teams through transformational leadership will experience the following:

  • See lower turnover rates
  • Have team members who participate in achieving the organizational goals
  • See less sick time use
  • Lower number of use force incidents
  • And,realize an increase in community support and relations.

The goal ofTransformational Leadership: Creating Teams in the 21stCentury is to provide future and current industry leaders with tools and skills to create and foster an organizational atmosphere conducive to empowering and enabling each team member to seek continuous self-improvement through the standards of total quality management and leadership.
