The Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), 18th Street, and Tren de Aragua are some of the most violent and dangerous gangs in the world. The reach of these gangs now extends throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America. In the case of MS-13, this vicious gang has now begun to establish themselves in Europe, as well.
All of these gangs use a variety of crimes to make their way into neighborhoods and use violence to take over these neighborhoods. These gangs has gradually turned to transnational crimes such as human smuggling and drug trafficking. The US Government labels them as a “transnational criminal organization.”
This course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the structure, operations, and transnational impact of major international gangs, including MS-13, 18th Street, Tren de Aragua, and others. Participants will explore the origins, criminal activities, recruitment tactics, and law enforcement challenges related to these gangs, enhancing their ability to identify, assess, and respond to gang-related threats within both local and global contexts.
